Iran arrests son of woman facing stoning

TABRIZ, Iran, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Iranian authorities apparently have arrested the son and lawyer of a woman sentenced to death by stoning, a human rights advocate said Monday.

Two German journalists interviewing the men at the time also were arrested in Tabriz, Mina Ahadi of the International Committee Against Stoning told CNN.

Prosecutor General Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei confirmed to the official Islamic Republic News Agency Monday that two foreigners had been arrested.

IRNA said the foreigners entered Iran as "tourists" to interview Sajjad Ghaderzadeh, son of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, who was convicted of adultery in 2006 and sentenced to death by stoning.

Ahadi told CNN she set up a conference call with the journalists Sunday, and one suddenly said he had to hang up as someone was knocking on the door of Ashtiani's lawyer, Houtan Kian.

Ghaderzadeh's family told Ahadi he did not return home, and the hotel where the Germans were staying told her they did not return to their room.
