Ukrainian woman sells daughter

KIEV, Ukraine, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- A Ukrainian woman who tried to sell her 2-year-old daughter for $12,500 has been taken into custody, police said.

Police detained the 28-year-old woman after money changed hands Friday, RIA Novosti reported Sunday.

The unemployed woman was detained in the Zaporozhye region in south Ukraine and is a resident of the Berdyansk region, the report said.

She faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted of human trafficking. Her charges were also linked with the illegal transfer of children abroad, or the removal of organs or tissues for transplantation, the interior ministry said.

The toddler was taken to a hospital following the incident.
