Interpol warrants for 2 Pakistani soldiers

LYONS, France, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Interpol has issued arrest warrants for two Pakistani army officers allegedly involved in the November 2008 attacks in Mumbai, officials said Friday.

The agency also named as suspects a retired army officer and two alleged militants, one suspected of being allied with al-Qaida and the other described as a senior member of Lashkar-e-Toiba, The Daily Telegraph reported.

The two officers, both majors, allegedly serve in the ISI, Pakistan's intelligence agency. Some members of the ISI are believed to have ties to extremist groups they perceive as useful against India.

Former President Pervez Musharraf acknowledged this week that Pakistan tried to use groups like Lashkar-e-Toiba because India had refused to negotiate a Kashmir settlement.

David Headley, whose parents were a Pakistani diplomat and a U.S. woman, apparently provided information that led to the arrest warrants. Headley, who was arrested in Chicago last year, said he surveyed the area in Mumbai prior to the 2008 attack, reporting to members of the Pakistani military.

More than 160 people were killed by a small group who focused on targets that included two luxury hotels and a Jewish center.
