Kenyan polygamist dies at age 94

NEW NYANZA, Kenya, Oct. 7 (UPI) -- A Kenyan man who married more than 100 women and sired more than 160 children has died at age 94, his son said.

Ancentus Akuku Ogwela was Kenya's most prominent polygamist whose family was so large he built a school and church for them, the Kenya Broadcasting Corp. reported.

Dr. Walter Akuku said his father died Sunday in Kisumu following a short illness. The polygamist married his first wife in 1939, and married his last wife in 1992.

He was known as Danger Akuku in his home area, and in addition to his large number of wives and offspring, will be remembered for wearing his trademarked short pants nearly everywhere he went, the report said.

Akuku attributed his long life to a diet of traditional foodstuffs and vegetables, and fermented milk. The report didn't say how he was able to attract so many wives.
