JERUSALEM, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- A Palestinian man was shot and killed while struggling with an Israeli border police officer near East Jerusalem, police said.

Israel's Army Radio reported Sunday the officer had spotted several Palestinians trying to cross into Israel and gave pursuit, Haaretz said. When he caught up with one of them, a 37-year-old Hebron man, the two struggled and the Palestinian allegedly tried to take away the officer's gun.

The weapon accidentally discharged, killing the Palestinian, the officer told investigators.
