At least 33 killed in Jakarta train crash

PEMALANG, Indonesia, Oct. 2 (UPI) -- At least 33 people were killed and 16 were injured Saturday when two trains collided in Indonesia, and authorities said the death toll might be higher.

An official at Petarukan railway station said evacuation of victims from the wreckage had not yet been completed, The Jakarta Post reported.

PT Kai, the government railway company, said the business train Senja Utama and the executive train Argobromo Anggrek collided about 3 a.m. Saturday.

Police said machinists from both trains and a railway track operator were being questioned about the crash, which authorities said was the nation's worst since 1987, when 139 people were killed in Bintaro, South Jakarta.
