Miliband says brother welcome in cabinet

LONDON, Sept. 26 (UPI) -- The new leader of Britain's Labor Party says he will consider political rivals, including his older brother, for positions in the shadow cabinet.

Ed Miliband edged his brother, David, by a narrow margin in the voting for party leader, but has opened the door to David taking a position in the shadow cabinet.

''He has shown extraordinary generosity and graciousness to me both in public and in private and he now wants me to get on with the job of leading the party," Ed Miliband told The Daily Telegraph.

Ed Miliband added that he was open to having other party officials who were contenders for the leadership serve in the shadow cabinet.

The Daily Telegraph said Sunday that Ed Miliband won the race to succeed Gordon Brown thanks in part to his support from Britain's labor unions. His brother, however, had the backing of grassroots party activists as well as many Labor representatives in Parliament.
