The head of the State Anti-drug Committee, Viktor Ivanov, said Friday his officers and other law enforcement agencies in Russia are continually bringing in larger drug hauls every year, ITAR-Tass reported.
"Since the begging of this year, more than 30 tons of drugs have been seized, more than 6,000 drug dens have been shut, some 90,000 people have been brought to criminal liability," Ivanov said.
He said about 600,000 drug dealers have been detained in the past five years, but he didn't specify how many have been charged or convicted.
Russian anti-drug service statistics show 25 percent of all court rulings involve drug-related cases, ITAR-Tass said.
