CAIRO, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Egyptian security forces found nine weapons caches in the Sinai Peninsula and confiscated weapons slated for Gaza, an official said.
It is the third time in the past 10 days Egyptian security forces have uncovered weapons destined to be smuggled into the Gaza Strip, Maan news agency said Tuesday.
The weapons were found in a number of locations in northern and central Sinai as well as the city of Rafah that borders the Gaza Strip and the Egyptian port of Al Arish, the agency said.
Egyptian security personnel confiscated machine guns, anti-aircraft missiles, anti-tank mines, ammunition and explosives.
Officials told the agency that security forces also uncovered two tunnels used to smuggle cars into Gaza, the report said.
Egyptian security forces last week found more than 150 anti-aircraft missiles. Since July, Egyptian border police have uncovered more than 500 smuggling tunnels near the Gaza Strip, the agency said.
