LONDON, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- A German bomber shot down off the U.K. coast during World War II was discovered when a fishing boat snagged its nets on it, museum officials say.
The twin-engined Dornier 17 was found buried in a sandbank about 50 feet underwater, Great Britain's Sun newspaper said Friday.
The airplane was known as a "Flying Pencil" and is the only one of its kind remaining, the report said.
The Nazi bomber was shot down during attacks on Britain in August 1940. The Royal Air Force Museum will raise the airplane next year and put it on display in London.
The airplane was said to be in good condition.
"It is a unique survivor from the Battle of Britain," said museum Director Peter Dye.
