BEIJING, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- The leaders of China and North Korea say they have agreed to seek an early resumption of the six-party talks on North Korea's nuclear program.

The announcement came at the end of North Korean leader Kim Jong Il's second visit to China this year, China Daily reported Tuesday.

Kim's five-day trip included a meeting with Chinese President Hu Jintao during which Kim said his country remains committed to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

He said he wished to coordinate with China in pushing for an early resumption of the six-party talks with South Korea, the United States, Japan and Russia.

Kim's visit to China concluded Monday.

China's Foreign Ministry said its chief negotiator has spent the past few weeks traveling between North and South Korea in an effort to get the talks restarted.
