Mild quake rattles southwest China

CHENGDU, China, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- At least 12 people were injured and more than 300 houses damaged in a magnitude 4.8 earthquake in southwest China, officials say.

The quake did the most harm in Qiaojia County, where at least 11 people were injured, and as many as 400 homes damaged, China's Xinhua news agency said Sunday.

One person was injured in Ningnan County.

Sichuan's earthquake network center said the event occurred about 6 miles beneath the surface.
