SHENYANG, China, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- A fire in a real estate project in northeast China's Liaoning Province has killed 9 people and injured 9 others, fire officials say.

The fire started at the sales office of Wanda Plaza in Shenyang and firefighters evacuated about 40 people before extinguishing the blaze, China's Xinhua news agency said Saturday.

Investigators said the fire might have started when an electrical circuit shorted.

None of the victims were identified. The plaza is a project built by the Wanda Group, a private company with real estate investments in several Chinese cities, Xinhua said.
