SANAA, Yemen, Aug. 27 (UPI) -- A 25-year-old man with an explosives-equipped belt was arrested, allegedly on his way to carry out a suicide mission for al-Qaida, Yemeni officials said Friday.

Sources in the security service in Abyan province told the Saba news agency the man, Jihad Abdallah al-Faqir, was traveling by car to Lawdar district when he was detained. He allegedly told investigators an al-Qaida leader, Ali Alwi al-Saqqaf, had recruited him for the bombing.

Al-Faqir was held for investigation.
