NEEDLES, Calif., Aug. 26 (UPI) -- A body found buried in San Bernardino County, Calif., in December has been identified as that of a former corrections officer from Oregon missing since 2005.

The body of Ronald Lee Guy was discovered in a shallow grave off Interstate 40 in the Mojave Desert, about 45 miles west of Needles, Calif., the Los Angeles Times reported Thursday.

"At this point we don't have any solid information as to why he was in Southern California," San Bernardino County sheriff's Detective Ryan Ford told the Times from Portland, Ore.

Ford said authorities are working on leads that first came to light when Guy was reported missing, declining to disclose details to protect the investigation.

Guy had been employed at the Columbia Rivers Correctional Institution in Portland.
