Ex-Hells Angel gunned down in Vancouver

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- A former debt collector for the Hells Angels who was kicked out of the biker gang in May was shot dead Thursday outside his home in Vancouver, authorities said.

Juel Ross Stanton was killed in his backyard at about 6:15 a.m., a few hours before a scheduled court appearance, The Vancouver Sun reported. His wife cursed police officers who responded to the shooting, neighbors said.

Inspector Andy Richardson, an expert on biker gangs who transferred from the Vancouver to the Port Moody police, said Stanton was violent even by Hells Angels standards.

"We were shocked when he became a member of the club because he has been such a loose cannon for so many years and his propensity for violence has been almost second to none," Richards said. "He was certainly very, very volatile and very high maintenance from a club perspective. He drew a lot of unwanted police attention and a lot of unwanted public attention on the Hells Angels."

There are plenty of suspects because Stanton had a "lengthy list of enemies," Richardson said, including the Hells Angels.

Richardson said Stanton was in a theft ring with his mother and brother while still in his teens.
