SEOUL, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- North Korea has seized a South Korean fishing boat, the South Korean Coast Guard said Sunday.
The seizure occurred in waters near the two countries' eastern sea border, The New York Times reported.
The coast guard said the seizure apparently happened when the 41-ton squid-catching boat entered the North's exclusive economic zone, the newspaper reported.
Yonhap, South Korea's national news service agency, said the ship was being towed to Songjin, a port on North Korea's east coast, for interrogation of the crew, consisting of four South Koreans and three Chinese.
Though such incidents have become rarer in recent decades, in the years immediately following the 1950-53 Korean War, North Korea was accused of kidnapping South Korean fishing boats in South Korean waters. The Times said hundreds of South Korean fishermen never returned home.
