Mother said Josh Powell threatened her
LILLE, France, July 30 (UPI) -- A French mother who admitted killing her eight babies said she didn't want any more children but didn't want to see a doctor for contraception.
Frank Berton, lawyer for Dominique Cottrez of Lille said his client is being detained by prosecutors who are investigating the killings which happened from 1989 to 2006, the BBC reported.
Being placed under investigation is the first stage of criminal proceedings that can lead to charges of voluntary homicide, the BBC said Thursday.
Berton said Cottrez was "tired, worn out and battered down" after her confession and questioning.
"She doesn't have to carry this on her conscience any more, and that's a kind of relief," he added.
Cottrez will undergo psychological tests to see whether she was fully responsible for her actions, Berton said.
"To analyze why it happened, that she doesn't know," he added.
Cottrez's husband, Pierre-Marie Cottrez, initially faced investigation for allegedly hiding the bodies and not reporting crimes, but he has been freed without charge, the BBC reported.
