Pakistan says 24 Taliban killed

PESHAWAR, Pakistan, July 26 (UPI) -- Pakistani warplanes pounded Taliban positions Monday and military officials said at least 24 of the Muslim insurgents were killed and 14 others wounded.

The Press Trust of India reported officials said Pakistani jets targeting militant positions in the Orakzai tribal region in the country's northwest killed 16 fighters and injured 12 while destroying a training camp and five hideouts.

Strikes against Taliban positions in the Kurram Agency killed eight militants and injured two others while wiping out two hideouts, PTI said.

Pakistan security forces claim Taliban casualties have surpassed 1,000 in Orakzai Agency in recent months.
