MANILA, Philippines, June 29 (UPI) -- The Philippines' new president promised to fill his cabinet with extraordinary individuals but many of his choices are retreads, political observers say.
President-elect Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino has selected people for his cabinet who were members of previous administrations, including those of his mother, the late former President Corazon Aquino, GMANews.tv reported Tuesday.
A closer look at Aquino's choices show most of them have had extensive government experience, GMANews says.
Four were members of the Hyatt 10, a group of high-ranking government officials who resigned from the administration of previous president in a 2005 scandal.
In anticipation of Aquino's inauguration Wednesday, the military has placed metro Manila on red alert, the Philippine Daily Inquirer reports.
A spokesman for the Armed Forces said at least two battalions, comprised of some 1,000 soldiers, will provide security at the grandstand where Aquino will take the oath of office.
