Death toll from China landslides tops 40

BEIJING, June 19 (UPI) -- Landslides triggered by torrential rains this week have killed at least 41 people in southern and eastern China, officials in the region said.

The same rains that resulted in deadly floods across a swath of China have also sent sodden hillsides sliding in urban and rural areas, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported Saturday.

Rescuers are also searching for the missing, including six lumberjacks caught by a slide in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and six workers who were in a shed in Rongshui County.
