JERUSALEM, June 8 (UPI) -- Members of Israel's National Student Union said Tuesday they are making plans to send their own flotilla to meet any new aid ships headed for Gaza.
Chairman Boaz Toporovsky said 400 yacht owners have expressed an interest in taking part in the initiative that would start up in two weeks, Israel's Haaretz newspaper reports.
He said students want to talk with those aboard the next humanitarian aid ship headed for Gaza.
Israel's National Student Union and a group of former navy personnel are also trying to raise funds to lease a ship to travel to Turkey.
Toporovsky said that mission would call attention to Turkey's treatment of its Kurdish and Armenian minorities.
Last month, Israeli commandos stormed a flotilla from Turkey that was taking humanitarian aid to Gaza, killing at least nine activists. The incident produced a storm of protests from the international community.
