False alarm leads to emergency landing

MOSCOW, June 7 (UPI) -- A Russian airliner made an emergency landing in Novosibirsk after a false alarm reporting its landing gear on fire after takeoff, officials say.

The Boeing 737-400 belonging to Transaero landed at Tolmachevo airport Monday after flying in circles for 2 hours to burn off fuel before returning to the airport from which it took off, RIA Novosti reported.

The plane, with 120 passengers and six crew members aboard, was en route to Moscow when the incident occurred.

An airline official said there had been no actual fire and the alarm was set off by a malfunctioning fire gauge, RIA Novosti said.
