MOSUL, Iraq, May 25 (UPI) -- A member of the Iraqi parliament was shot and killed by gunmen in Mosul, north of Baghdad, officials said.

Bashar al-Ageidi, a member of the secular Iraqiya coalition of former Prime Minister Iyad Allawi, was ambushed outside his house Monday and died later of his wounds, the BBC reported Tuesday. Police say two of the attackers got out of a vehicle and shot Ageidi in the chest.

So far, no group has claimed responsibility, officials said.

Police said one gunman was unable to get back into the vehicle and was captured.

The Iraqiya coalition narrowly won Iraq's parliamentary elections in March, slipping by Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's State of Law alliance.
