BARRY, Wales, May 18 (UPI) -- A mother has been arrested in South Wales for the death of her 11-year-old severely autistic son, authorities said.
Yvonne Freaney, 48, of Barry, South Wales, was charged with murder Monday in the death of her son Glen, The Times of London reported Tuesday.
Police Saturday found Freaney holding the hand of her dead son in a hotel room near the Cardiff Airport. The boy may have been dead for at least a day, police said.
"I would like to give my condolences to Glen's family and friends at what is a very sad time," police commander Carl Davies said in a statement.
Freaney, whose husband Mark is a former Royal Air Force officer, was a loving mother who took good care of her three children, Glen being the youngest, said Sue Whingren, a former classmate of Yvonne Freaney.
"Glen was severely autistic but all her kids have always been very well cared for," Whingren said.
