Paralyzed man sues Whistler resort

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, May 5 (UPI) -- A Vancouver man says he's paralyzed because workers at Canada's Whistler Mountain resort served too much alcohol, which resulted in a fall.

Daniel Holt, 26, became a quadriplegic after falling down a staircase at a party at the resort Sept. 26, 2008, said Holt's lawsuit filed in British Columbia Supreme Court.

Holt's lawsuit said Whistler workers served too much alcohol at a party for a softball league Holt belonged to and it resulted in unsafe conditions, the (Vancouver, British Columbia) Province reported Wednesday.

Holt said a number of intoxicated people crowded onto the top of a staircase to leave the party and he fell from the staircase onto a concrete landing. There was no information on whether Holt was drinking at the party.

Holt's lawsuit said Whistler should be held responsible for his paralysis, emotional trauma, chronic pain and anxiety. Whistler officials could not be reached for comment.
