EDINBURGH, Scotland, April 21 (UPI) -- A Scottish jury Wednesday found five men not guilty of plotting to extort more than $6.5 million to return a stolen Leonardo da Vinci painting.
Solicitor Marshall Ronald, 53, of Skelmersdale, private investigators Robert Graham, 57, and John Doyle, 61, both of Ormskirk, and Glasgow-based solicitors David Boyce, 63, and Calum Jones, 45, walked free from the Edinburgh high court, exonerated of trying to extort the money to return the masterpiece, "The Madonna of the Yarnwinder," the Edinburgh Evening News reported.
The $31 million painting was stolen from Drumlanrig Castle in Dumfriesshire by robbers wielding axes, the newspaper said.
The painting was seized by police in 2007. The five men on trial were not accused of the robbery, the Evening News said.
