ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates, April 20 (UPI) -- A woman convicted in her husband's murder is to become the first female to be executed in the United Arab Emirates, a court official in Abu Dhabi says.
The execution will take place once a firing squad has been authorized to carry out the sentence, the Gulf News reported Monday.
The woman was sentenced to death by a Sharia court seven years ago for the stabbing death of her police officer husband, who was in his 20s.
Her lover and two friends of her lover were also convicted in the case and sentenced to die.
At the time of the incident, the woman was 17 years old.
The parents of her husband refused to pardon her and asked the court to impose capital punishment on all four defendants.
They have been held at Sharjah County Jail since 2003.
