TORONTO, March 18 (UPI) -- Toronto police said arrests were pending Thursday in a case where a hospitalized dying woman in palliative care was robbed of her jewelry by two men.

The theft happened Tuesday around 8 p.m. at Toronto East General Hospital when the men entered the room of an unidentified woman in her 70s and stole some $7,000 worth of jewelry, some of it 50 years old, the Toronto Star reported.

The unconscious woman's family had stepped out for coffee when the theft occurred, the Toronto Sun said. The woman died as officers were interviewing the family, police said.

The woman chose to wear the jewelry as her home had been broken into during a previous hospital stay, the reports said.

Security cameras captured images of the suspects walking throughout the hospital and entering rooms.

Thursday morning, Staff Sgt. Greg Cantelon told UPI at least one arrest was imminent based on the security camera evidence.
