Ukraine's new head receives a warning

KIEV, Ukraine, March 12 (UPI) -- Ukraine's former prime minister says she plans to keep a close watch on new President Viktor Yanukovych's energy policies.

Yulia Tymoshenko, who was narrowly defeated in last month's presidential election, says she will not allow Yanukovych to create a consortium for the transit of Ukraine's gas, the Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported Friday.

"The gas pipeline system will remain the property of Ukraine and will make our country strong," Tymoshenko said in an interview.

Tymoshenko also said she would watch for any sign Yanukovych favored certain groups for the possible privatization of gas deposits controlled by Ukraine on the Black Sea shelf.
