NEW DELHI, March 9 (UPI) -- A moving passenger train collided with a tractor-trolley at a railroad crossing in India's northern Uttar Pradesh State, killing nine people, authorities said.
About 12 people riding in the trolley attached to the tractor were injured, many seriously, in the incident Tuesday at Uttaripura near Shivrajpur village.
The Times of India newspaper quoted eyewitnesses as saying the driver of the tractor failed to notice the approaching train at the unmanned railroad crossing.
The Press Trust of India reported eight of those killed were teenagers, four of them boys and the other four girls. The ninth victim was a woman.
Railroad officials, however, claimed six people died in the incident and 10 more were injured, the report said.
