About 250 residents of an adjacent apartment building were evacuated during the fire, which collapsed the club's roof.

The club was closed during the month of December because of safety violations, emergency officials said.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev ordered safety checks nationwide after a fire late last year killed more than 150 people at a nightclub in the west Urals city of Perm.
