MEXICO CITY, March 5 (UPI) -- Mexico City judges and others are working to apply a new law that allows same-sex weddings.
The law took, which also allows same-sex couples to adopt children, took effect Thursday.
Workshops were conducted this week for the city's 120 civil court judges who may have to rule on domestic issues after the weddings, CNN reported Friday. Workshops last month were conducted for the 60 civil registry judges who will perform the marriages, officials said.
"We haven't had any problems with the judges," said Juan Luis Alvarez-Gayou, the founder and director of the private Mexican Institute for Sexology, which conducted the workshops.
The measure became effective a day after a same-sex marriage was performed in Argentina, officials said.
Two men were married in a civil ceremony in Buenos Aires, the country's official news agency reported. Judicial measures had barred gay marriage in the Argentine capital, but a judge issued a ruling last week that allowed the couple to marry.
