Facebook posting endangers operation

JERUSALEM, March 4 (UPI) -- A soldier's posting on his Facebook page forced the Israeli Army to postpone a military operation on the West Bank recently, officials say.

The soldier, who belonged to an elite unit of the Artillery Corps, posted information about an upcoming raid on Facebook that was spotted by other members of his unit, The Jerusalem Post reported Thursday.

"On Wednesday, we are cleaning out (the name of the village) today an arrest operation, tomorrow an arrest operation and then, please God, home by Thursday," the soldier wrote.

Military officials say the soldier in question was sentenced to 10 days in jail and kicked out of his unit.

Officials sent a letter to all soldiers warning of the danger involved in placing sensitive information on sites like Facebook.

"Enemy intelligence scans the Internet in search of pieces of information about the IDF (Israeli Defense Force). Information that could sabotage operations and endanger our forces," the letter read.
