OKAZAKI, Japan, Feb. 22 (UPI) -- The bodies of two babies found in a cart at a supermarket had been frozen and wrapped in plastic before being discarded, police in Okazaki, Japan, said.

A worker found the bodies while clearing away spare grocery carts at the entrance to the store before closing up for the evening Saturday, The Mainichi Daily News reported Monday.

The naked bodies, that of a mature baby girl and a premature baby boy, had been wrapped in plastic bags and put in two separate paper bags, police said.

The babies, who were not believed to be twins, likely were frozen within two days of dying, autopsy results showed.

It had yet to be determined if the babies had the same mother.

There were no significant external wounds on the bodies and the autopsy was not able to determine the cause of death or how long the babies had been dead, police said.
