Woman stabbed with syringe during robbery

GLASGOW, Scotland, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- Police say they are searching for a man who stabbed a woman twice with a syringe during a robbery in Glasgow, Scotland.

Police in Scotland's Strathclyde region said the unidentified male attacker struck his victim in broad daylight Thursday in Glasgow, stabbing her in the chest and arm before fleeing with her purse, The Scotsman reported Friday.

"This was a frightening ordeal for the victim and she is obviously very upset by it," Strathclyde Police Detective Constable Richard McAvoy said.

The condition of the victim, as well as her identity, were not released.

Authorities said they are seeking public assistance in identifying and locating the suspect.

"Thankfully this was an isolated incident but it is obviously very worrying for local people. However I'd like to reassure the community that high-visibility patrols will continue to police the area," Constable Marie Stewart from the local Community Safety Department told The Scotsman.
