NEW DELHI, Jan. 29 (UPI) -- A three-star Indian army lieutenant general was ordered to face court-martial Friday by the army's chief of staff for alleged involvement in a land scam.
Gen. Deepak Kapoor, the army chief of staff, acted on his defense minister's recommendation when he issued the order against Lt. Gen. Avadesh Prakash, the Press Trust of India reported.
"The army chief has ordered disciplinary action against Lieutenant General Prakash, who will face a court-martial in the Sukna land scam. The chief has stuck to the advice from the defense minister in the case," officials in Defense Minister A.K. Antony's department were quoted as saying.
Two days earlier, Antony had overturned Kapoor's decision, recommending disciplinary action and not administrative action be taken against Prakash.
Prakash, who was to have retired at the end of the month, was accused of involvement in the land scam with three other officers in Sukna in West Bengal state. Cases against the other three are pending.
