Prodigy, 21, about to become doctor
TEHRAN, Jan. 16 (UPI) -- The trial of a French academic charged with acting against Iran's national interests ended Saturday after a closed-door session, officials said.
Clotilde Reiss was arrested last summer during protests over the re-election of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Saturday was the third and final session of her trial, which began in November at the Revolution Court in Tehran.
The exact charges against Reiss were not made public, though she reportedly apologized to the court for participating in an illegal protest and asked for forgiveness, Fars News Agency reported Saturday.
Human rights groups have said the Iranian government often forces
detainees to make such confessions, CNN reported Saturday.
A verdict was expected within a week, her lawyer, Mohammad Ali Mahdavi, said, adding he had asked the court to exonerate Reiss.
