Three arrested in Egyptian Copt shooting

CAIRO, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- Three suspects were arrested following a drive-by shooting that killed six Coptic Christians and one police official in southern Egypt, officials said.

Shots were fired at worshipers outside a church in Nag Hammadi after mass on Coptic Christmas Eve Wednesday, the BBC reported Friday.

Ten people, including two Muslim passers-by, were injured, officials said.

Protesters clashed with police Thursday at a hospital, where more than 1,000 Christians went to get the bodies of the six victims, the BBC reported.

Officials said they believe the shooting was in retaliation for the alleged rape of a Muslim girl by a Christian man.
