Carbon monoxide kills 3 in Quebec home

OTTAWA, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Canadian police in the western Quebec region of Gatineau said Thursday a man, his wife and daughter died of carbon monoxide poisoning in their home.

Gatineau police spokeswoman Isabelle Poirier didn't say who called officers to the house Wednesday afternoon, but that the three were found unconscious.

Before paramedics arrived, all three had died, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

Initially, investigators said the incident was suspicious, but Thursday morning said it was apparent a gasoline generator in the garage was responsible for the gas poisoning.

The area had a power failure Saturday and the generator was hooked up to keep a refrigerator running, Poirier said.

The male victim was 61, his wife 58 and their daughter 38, the Ottawa Citizen reported.
