Prodigy, 21, about to become doctor

ATOK, Philippines, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- Fifty-five people aboard a Philippines bus were injured Wednesday when the vehicle plunged into a 65-foot ravine, police said.
The accident happened in the town of Atok in Benguet province, ABS-CBN News reported. Witnesses said it first crashed into a concrete barrier, but its momentum caused it to turn and fall straight into the ravine.
The Philippines broadcaster said police believe the bus's brakes may have failed. Residents who responded to the crash said some passengers were already climbing back onto the roadway when they arrived.
Most of those hurt reportedly escaped with bruises, but some of the more seriously injured were taken to hospitals with fractures.
