BEIJING, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- A series of collisions involving at least 100 vehicles on a highway in China's Jiangxi province led to 10 deaths and 19 injuries Monday, officials said.

The crashes occurred at several sites on the Poyang Lake Bridge, part of the highway system linking the cities of Jiujiang and Jingdezhen, China's state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

Officials blamed the early morning accidents on poor visibility caused by thick fog and ice on the bridge.

A local communications official did not say how many accidents occurred.
