NEW DELHI, Dec. 26 (UPI) -- Narayan Dutt Tiwari, governor of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, resigned his post after being tied to a sex sting operation, the governor's office says.
The Press Trust of India said Tiwari cited "health problems" as the reason for his decision in his resignation letter Saturday to Indian President Pratibha Patil.
Tiwari's resignation comes after video footage from a sex sting operation was shown on the TV channel ABN Andhra Jyothi. The footage showed an elderly man, thought to possibly be Tiwari, in a compromising position with three women.
Tiwari's office promptly denied the man shown in the video was the 86-year-old Andhra Pradesh official and obtained a restraining order to stop the channel from airing it again.
Release of the video prompted political groups such as the Telugu Desam Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party to call for Tiwari's removal from office, the Press Trust of India reported.
