MUMBAI, Dec. 25 (UPI) -- The Israel's El Al airline flew maintenance workers to India Friday to repair a plane that hit a bird shortly after takeoff from Mumbai.
The pilot decided to return to the airport after the bird hit one of the engines, Ynetnews.com reported. The airline put the passengers up for the night at hotels in Mumbai and was arranging to get them back to Israel on other airlines.
"The safety issue is a superior value in the company's activity and it does not compromise on it at any stage or in any way," an El Al official said.
Last week, an El Al plane took off from Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv using the same runway a Lufthansa plane was about to land on. Two air traffic controllers who were on duty at the time have been suspended.
