SANA'A, Yemen, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- Yemeni officials said Wednesday they are stepping up the hunt for al-Qaida terrorists in the wake of a bloody security operation.
Yemen's Ministry of Interior has issued orders to local governors to intensify their efforts against al-Qaida after receiving reports the militants were planning retaliation for government raids carried out last week against its training camps, during which dozens of suspected terrorists were killed and arrested, the official SABA news agency reported.
SABA said security forces had been placed on high alert for possible al-Qaida retaliation in Yemen's cities.
Last week's raids resulted in 34 terrorists killed, most in the district of Almahfad, Abyan, and 29 others arrested, some in the district of Arhab, Sana'a, officials said.
