AMPATUAN, Philippines, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- Philippines journalists lit candles Wednesday as they visited the site where at least 22 of their colleagues were slain in November, observers said.
The journalists also offered prayers for the fallen comrades and other victims killed by militiamen allegedly acting under the orders of rebel clan leader Andal Ampatuan Jr., a local mayor who has been charged with murder in the deaths of 58 people, GMA News reported.
The broadcaster said about 29 journalists from the cities of Cotabato, Koronadal, Kidapawan and Davao went to the site of Ampatuan town's Barangay Salman where the victims were shot and buried.
Members of the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines reportedly accompanied the journalists in lighting 58 candles, symbolizing each of the lives claimed in the mass shootings.
