Lawyer: Trial likely in Pitino extortion

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Dec. 23 (UPI) -- An attorney for a woman accused of trying to blackmail Louisville basketball Coach Rick Pitino says she expects the case to go to trial.

Karen Cunagin Sypher entered an innocent plead Tuesday to charges contained in a superseding federal indictment that included the new allegation that she sought to retaliate against Pitino for reporting her alleged extortion attempt.

Sypher is accused of demanding money from Pitino in exchange for her silence about an affair they had in 2003.

Her lawyer, James Earhart, told The (Louisville) Courier-Journal it was more likely the case would be heard by a jury than settled out of court.
