MOGADISHU, Somalia, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- At least three people were killed and seven others hurt in fighting between government soldiers and rebels in Mogadishu, Somalian authorities said.
Two people died Saturday when a mortar shell hit their home in Mogadishu's Hodan district, police told Shabelle Media Network Sunday. Details about the third person's death were not immediately available.

The deaths and injuries occurred as Islamist rebels attacked transitional government troops moving through the district, Shabelle reported.
The fighting intensified when a government checkpoint was blockaded, backing up traffic on the southern side of Mogadishu and making the main street of Warshadah impassable, Shabelle said.
