Five police officers killed in Iraq

BAGHDAD, Dec. 6 (UPI) -- Gunmen shot and killed five Iraqi police officers in two separate attacks Sunday, authorities said.

One officer was killed east of Kirkuk and the four others near Abu Garib, provincial police sources said. No other information was immediately available on the Kirkuk shooting.

The shooting near Abu Garib occurred when gunmen stormed a police checkpoint, killed the officers and led the scene, Xinhua, China's state-run news agency reported. Three weeks ago, gunmen disguised in army uniforms executed 13 villagers in the region.
