COPENHAGEN, Denmark, Dec. 4 (UPI) -- Conservationists say they have placed signs around Copenhagen warning climate change could do serious harm to the chemistry of the world's oceans.
The ocean conservation group Oceana said Friday it would be taking part in discussions on the increasing acidity of seawater at the climate-change treaty talks taking place in the Danish capital next week.
Delegates will be reminded about the acidity issue by signs posted at the Copenhagen airport and aboard metro trains that rising levels of acids will likely cause serious damage to fisheries and coral reefs.
Oceana said in a written statement the world will need to ratchet carbon emissions down to reach a level of 350 parts per million of atmospheric carbon dioxide to protect marine ecosystems.
